The Game Boy Advance SP is a handheld video game console released in 2003 by the Japanese manufacturer Nintendo as part of their Gameboy product line. The SP stands for Special Project.
The Game Boy Advance SP was marketed as an improved version of the original Game Boy Advance from 2001. The SP features a built-in backlight, a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery and an all-new design. The game console is now foldable to both save space and protect the LCD screen when not in use.
Nintendo has released the SP in several versions, including a gold Zelda edition, a red Mario edition, and a red and a blue Pokémon edition.
