The Xbox 360 is a game console produced by Microsoft and developed by a partnership of IBM, ATI, Samsung and SiS. The Xbox Live service allows players to play against each other online and download arcade games, trailers, TV shows, music videos and rented movies. The Xbox 360 is the successor to the Xbox and competes with Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii, both seventh-generation gaming consoles. It is the first console to launch simultaneously in the three main regions of the world (United States, Europe and Japan) and support wireless controllers from the start.
The Xbox 360 was officially unveiled on MTV on May 12, 2005, with a detailed introduction and game information at E3. The device sold out instantly during its launch (except in Japan) and had already sold 57 million units worldwide by December 2011.
